Summary

To cap off my exciting journey through my Bachelor of Fine Art degree, I had to stage an art exhibition with my peers. This included working to ensure everyone was happy with presenting, producing an artist catalog, and being present for the event. I served as the Project Manager for the event, which held the responsibility of making sure materials got to the right people. In tandem, I had to prepare my own artwork for the show. It was a challenging experience where I learned how to balance personal endeavors with shared responsibilities.

Responsibility

My duty as the Project Manager for the Art Exhibition centered on meetings and communication. I served as host to each meeting and as a team, we worked on picking our theme and style. From there, we expanded upon the materials we had to create an exciting advertising campaign. For the campaign, I worked on the artist catalog, which was designed in Adobe InDesign and cataloged every presenting artist with their artwork. Once the booklet was done, I was putting up my artwork in the gallery for the exhibition reception.

Deliverables

Artist Catalog

The Artist Catalog comprises all of the artists that presented at the exhibition. When constructing the catalog, I wanted it to be small and sentimental. I went with a 5.5 by 8.5 inch page size and developed a structured layout for each page. When meeting with the rest of the team, we agreed on the artist page contents, and what the booklet would contain. When it was finished, we printed 200 copies and used an electric guillotine to cut the pages even. Exhibition attendees remarked on the professional quality of our catalog.

Art Exhibition

The Art Exhibition celebrated the artwork made over four years of dedication. As a team, we had to plan out where each member's artwork would go and how much space they needed. We then hammered our nails and hung our artwork according to our plans. Each artist had their showcase reviewed and then we were ready for reception.

Culminating Artwork

For my showcase, I presented the work I did with the Java Processing library. I made five different graphics using only code and presented how each bundle of code made up the graphic. I gave away small square cards that had the graphics printed on them using a pen plotting machine. People love it! I ran out of cards after the reception.

Reflection

This was a wonderful way to end my bachelor's degree. Working with fellow artists from a diverse set of fields gave everyone a strong sense of ambition. For my part, I was enthusiastic about the prospect of putting on a show and wanted to put my very best out there. That came with the challenge of managing ambition against limited time. I was able to work my team members to make sure our exhibition was up to our vision while also parting with expensive ideas. We learned the value of making the most out of our limited time.
